Nutreco: feeding animals and fish

SHV enters the animal nutrition and aquaculture market with the acquisition of Nutreco in 2015. Nutreco now has the backing it needs to provide animal and fish farmers with the high quality protein required to feed the world’s growing population.

Nutreco was founded in 1994 following a management buyout from BP Nutrition. Yet the company can trace its roots back for over a century through its Skretting and Trouw Nutrition subsidiaries.

Nutrition, Ecology, and Economy

Nutreco is formed in 1994 when a private equity-backed management buy-out takes over several BP Nutrition businesses in animal nutrition, breeding species, fish farming, and meat processing. Headquartered in the Netherlands, the conglomerate consists of twenty companies active in fifteen countries. The name stands for Nutrition, Ecology, and Economy.

Through BP Nutrition, Nutreco goes back to a series of family-owned businesses that each have their own history. The heart of the company comprises Trouw Nutrition , a producer of ingredients for livestock feed, and Skretting , a manufacturer and supplier of aquaculture feeds. Another Nutreco livestock feed company, Hendrix , is sold off in 2011.

In 1997, Nutreco goes public.
